7 Aussie kids classics to savour on 'Straya day
Posted on 24 January 2018
If Australia Day is about celebrating being an Australian, then at MADE we want to celebrate our roots and nominate our 7 favourite Aussie kids classics that every parent should have in their toolkit.
1. Possum Magic, by Mem Fox
If there is one children’s book that captures the essence of Australiana, this is it. From the charming animals to the classic story, we love every part of Possum Magic.
2. Round the Twist
Not exactly for babies, but Round the Twist is a true Aussie classic tv show that almost all Aussie kids of the 80s and 90s can appreciate. Watching a few of the best clips is one way to celebrate being an Australian.
3. Vegemite and Kraft Peanut Butter
We know there’s a war of peanut butters going on, but it’s only since heading overseas that the team at MADE has realised, there is no peanut butter better than true blue Peanut Butter. Whether it comes in a Bega branded jar or a break proof Kraft plastic tub, there’s no denying that Kraft PB is superior to all. And Vegemite, well that’s a given.
4. Iced Vovos
All hail the greatest biscuit of all time. Marshmallow and jam on top, crispy vanilla biscuit down below. When we were kids these were regularly in the lunchbox and no one batted an eyelid. Ah the good old days. The Arnott’s version was always our fave, but if you can’t find them, try making your own.
5. Peter Combe
6. Hypercolour t-shirts
Our green-to-pink tee had a fateful end with an iron, but this was the coolest item of clothing ever. Bring back the hypercolour we say!
7. Sylvanian families
We hear from the kids of today that Sylvanian Families are alive and well in 2018. Thankfully some things don’t change - this was the most exotic toy we ever owned, and they lasted long after the fur wore down on their noses from all the patting.
This list has got us all misty eyed for the 80s. We’re off to have a cuppa and an Iced Vovo!
